Short Bio

Benedict Altier is the CEO and co-founder of CatX, a Y-Combinator and Lloyd's Lab-backed company that connects institutional investors—including pension funds, hedge funds, and structured credit funds—with opportunities in (re)insurance and retrocession. By leveraging alternative capital, CatX enables insurers to reduce their cost of capital, hedge their portfolios, and expand their business operations.

The company has been widely featured in publications including TechCrunch, The Insurer, Intelligent Insurer, Reinsurance News, and others. CatX's mission is to transform insurance risk into a new alternative asset class, helping to increase the sector's stability and address the rising costs of covering natural disasters.

Over the past twelve months, CatX has listed more than $500 million in opportunities and built a network of 30+ funds with over $500 billion in total assets under management.

Prior to founding CatX, Benedict was a strategy consultant at Baringa Partners, specializing in (re)insurance and asset management. He holds an MA in Chinese Studies from the University of Oxford.
